About Christine Tsen

Christine Thomas Tsen is a freelance cellist, chamber musician, and soloist in the Boston area.  As a young cellist, Christine attended the Eastman School of Music "Prep" Department graduating with honors.  She went on to attend Eastman School as an undergraduate studying under Paul Katz.  She received her Masters with high honors from the New England Conservatory of Music studying under Colin Carr and is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda.

Christine has also studied with Stephen Doane, Eleonore Schoenfeld, Timothy Eddy, Irene Sharp, David Wells, Barbara Bogatin, Bernard Greenhouse, Marjorie Hunsberger and Alan Harris.

Her chamber coaches have included the Cleveland Quartet, the Emerson Quartet, The Tokyo Quartet, Charles Castleman, Renato Bonacini, Eric Rosenblith, Robert Taylor, James Vandemark and Zvi Zeitlin.  Christine has performed with orchestras both locally and abroad including the Acton-Concord Chamber Orchestra, Worcester Symphony, New World Symphony, Master Singers of Worcester, Boston Philharmonic, Heidelberg Opera Orchestra, and Rochester Chamber Orchestra.

She has made solo appearances with many orchestras, a few of which include The Rochester Chamber Orchestra, The Acton-Concord Chamber Orchestra, Eastern Music Festival Symphony Orchestra, Penfield Symphony, and Greece Symphony Orchestra.  Christine has premiered "Korean Folk Song" by Grace Choi, and "Chrysalis" for unaccompanied solo cello, "Waterways:  A Rochester Triptych", and "From The Land of Song" (O Gwlad y Gan) by reknowned composer David Evan Thomas.

Christine has participated and performed in many summer festivals including The Aspen Music Festival, Allegheny Music Festival, Interlochen Arts Camp, Saratoga Music Festival,  The Quartet Program at Beaver Creek, Bravo! Colorado, The Quartet Program at Great Woods, Eastern Music Festival, Meadowmount, and Park City Music Festival.

Christine has performed on various recordings including classical chamber, rock, and childrens music.  Her newest CD, "From The Land of Song" is now available for purchase on "CD Baby" and Amazon. All profits for this CD go to charity.  Christine has been a Kindermusik instructor and has worked with children of all ages in Montessori schools.  Her private teaching studio includes students of all ages.  In addition, she teaches for Apple Tree Arts as a private instructor of cello.  Christine lives in the Boston area with her husband, two children, and singing Tibetan Terrier.
